After we watched and got acquainted with the internal components of the PlayStation 5 and learned how to add an SSD expansion disk to the device today, Western Digital reveals to us the first SSD that will be compatible with the new Sony device.
The company announced the new disc under the name SN850 and marketed it by confirming that it is compatible with the PlayStation 5 device as we can see in the promotional image below, although Sony has not yet announced the white list that will include compatible SSD disks with the device, which it promised to unveil before the release Device next month.
As far as we know, the new disk will be based on the new generation PCIe Gen4 architecture, and the data read speed will be 7 GB / s, while the data storage speed will be 4.1 GB / s, and these speeds are suitable for the PlayStation 5.
As for volumes and prices, they will be as follows:
- 500 GB at $ 150
- 1 TB is $ 230
- 2 TB is $ 450
These prices, although they seem high, they are in line with the market prices, especially since this technology is still new and its price is still high, but choosing Sony to support the regular models available in the market will make it benefit from the competition of manufacturers of these discs, which will increase in the future and will cause a decrease in prices, unlike Microsoft, which adopted it. On a specific type manufactured specifically for the device with a monopoly on its production by Seagate until now
