Sony: Most of the PS4 games will work on the PS5, and it reveals the list of games that "will never work" on the device.

When we talk about pre-compatibility between generations, it is little to remind Sony of the conversation as we did not share many details, but this matter has changed today, as through the official support page for the Playstation, we got more information about the PS4 games that will work on the PS5 and more.

Initially, Sony stated that more than the overwhelming majority of the 4000 games on the PS4 will work on the new generation PS5, these games will definitely benefit from the power of the new generation and may run better with better clarity and higher (frame rate) performance. But Sony also clarifies that even though these PS4 games are working on the next generation, you may encounter technical problems and unexpected behavior when playing them. Sony also advises you to make sure that the game works before purchasing any additional content for it, and it also recommends that you update your device system always.

As we said above, the vast majority of PS4 games will work on PS5, but below you will find a list of games that you will never be able to play on the new generation.

  • Afro Samurai 2: Revenge of Kuma Volume One (Versus Evil)
  • DWVR (Mad Triangles) (PlayStation VR title)
  • Hitman Go: Definitive Edition (Square Enix)
  • Joe’s Diner (United Independent Entertainment)
  • Just Deal With It! (Super Punk Creative)
  • TT Isle of Man: Ride on the Edge 2 (Nacon)
  • Robinson: The Journey (Crytek) (PlayStation VR title)
  • Shadow Complex Remastered (Epic Games)
  • Shadwen (Frozenbyte)
  • We Sing (THQ Nordic)

If you have a PS4 hard disk, you can put it on your PS5, but you might have to download an update. After that, go to the list of games and select it. The discs definitely won't work on the digital version of the PS5. You can also transfer the archive files from PS4 to PS5 through your home internet connection (WiFi).
